Southampton Heritage Open Days 2017

The Southampton Heritage Open Days are taking place on
Saturday 9th & Sunday 10th September 2017.
The event is part of the national Heritage Open Days event.

 
The whole event is free and gives the opportunity to visit different locations around Southampton. The event is based around the Bugle Street area with heritage buses linking to other venues across the City.

 
 
Saturday 9th September:
 
• Southampton Heritage Fayre, St Joseph's Catholic Church Hall, Bugle Street
- Displays and information about Local Heritage Groups
- Free mini tours from SEE Southampton Tour Guides from the Heritage Fayre
 
• St. Michael's Church, Bugle Street
- Fayre in the square; from 11am till 2pm and the Church will be open all day to have a look around
 
• SS Shieldhall, located in Dock Gate 4
- Open from 10am till 3:00pm
- Enjoy an opportunity to tour the ship from Bridge to Boiler Room
 
• Tram & Dunkirk Little Ships workshop open, located near SS Shieldhall in Dock Gate 4
- See Dunkirk Little Ship 'Dorian' & Southampton Trams being restored
 
• Southampton (Old) Bowling Green, Lower Canal Walk
- Bowling Through the Centuries
 
• Bitterne Local History Centre, Peartree Avenue
- Visit the extensive museum & Research Centre with our Members
 
• "Out of the Shadows", Centenary Quay
- A free family event exploring Woolston's Spitfire heritage
 
A free Heritage bus service will link the venues together:
 
• Route A bus stops: Heritage Fayre (Bugle Street), Platform Road and SS Shieldhall / Workshop
- Every 30 mins from 10:15 till 15:45
 
• Route B bus stops: Heritage Fayre (Bugle Street), Platform Road, Bitterne Local History Centre
- Every hour from 10:30 till 15:30
 
• Route W bus stops: Heritage Fayre (Bugle Street), Platform Road, Woolston (Centenary Quay)
- Every hour from 11:00 till 15:00

 
**Visitors must not enter or exit the Docks, except by way of the free bus service**

 
 
Sunday 10th September:
 
• Tudor House and Garden
- Visit Tudor House for free, and there will be tours, crafts and Courtlye Musick’s melodic Renaissance beats
- Free guided tour by bus from Tudor House - 10:30, 12:00, 14:00 & 15:30
 
• Tram & Dunkirk Little Ships workshop open, located near SS Shieldhall in Dock Gate 4
- See Dunkirk Little Ship 'Dorian' & Southampton Trams being restored
 
• Southampton (Old) Bowling Green
- Watch Lawn Bowls in action
 
• Free mini tours from Southampton Tourist Guides Association (STGA)
- Hourly from 11:00 - 15:00, meet at St. Michael's Square

 
A free Heritage bus service will link the venues together:
 
• Route A bus stops: Tudor House, Platform Road and SS Shieldhall / Workshop
- Every 30 mins from 10:15 till 15:45
